Joined at the Hip (or foot)

AKA: Moving Wall

Type:  Group Initiative

Suggested Group Size: 10 - 15

Props:  Cones, webbing, or rope to mark the boundaries

Activity:  Participants must travel a fixed distance that the facilitator set before them and having them stay “connected” by their shoes.  Each participant, except those on the ends, must have their feet touching one another and proceed to the finishing point together.  If they happen to come disconnected, the entire group must take 2 steps back.

Increased challenge: Blindfold a few of the participants, or mute a few of the leaders.

Safety Note: Participants tend to place arms over one another’s shoulders making activity physically uncomfortable, and make sure if they are going to fall, other participants let go so as not to fall on each other.

Activity Specific: Land Based, Group Development

Potential Processing Outcomes: Teamwork, Communication, Leadership

Approximate Time: 10 - 20 minutes
