Type: Energizer
Props: NONE
Recommended Group Size: No more than 15 no less than 7.
Activity: Have your group stand in a circle. You start by asking everyone to think of a gesture to represent themselves (examples would be: sticking your tongue out, brush your shoulder, or air guitar). Have everyone go over what their gesture is more than once so everyone can see who is what. Emphasize the importance of knowing each gesture. Have everyone do each person's after each individual presents it to the group.
Next, explain that you have a ball of invisible energy that we are trying to pass around the group without one person knowing. Choose or ask for a volunteer to be in the middle of the circle.
How you pass the energy: If you have the energy and you are trying to pass it to someone else in the group you then do the gesture of the person you are trying to pass it to. The person you are passing it to has to then do your gesture back to receive it. If the person does not do your gesture back then you still have the energy. Anyone in the group can use the person's in the middle gesture to distract them in trying to pass the energy.
Ask the person in the middle to close their eyes for one moment while you assign who is starting with the energy. The person in the middle is trying to figure out who has the energy. If they think they know they can ask, "Do you have the energy?"
Approximate Time: 30-45mins depending on how large the group is
Potential Processing Outcomes: Different means of communication
Additional Comments: It takes a minute to get the hang of it. This is a great activity to do in a setting that needs to be quiet or is already loud because there is no verbal communication needed.
